What to Expect
At first handlers are always more nervous than their dogs! I know this, and won't expect too much of either of you for the first few weeks until you both find your feet. It is important to note that everyone is at a different level, and everyone is more worried about themselves and their own dog. There is no competition between dogs or handlers, only with yourself, to do a little better than last time. We are all here to get better.
Take a deep breath, smile, and enjoy spending this special hour with your dog, in the exclusive company of other dog lovers.
What we Cover
Everyone gets bored doing the same old things, and I like to vary topics, although they are all (mostly) relating to dogs!
Here are some of the things you never thought you would ever need to know...
- socialisation
- human-canine communication
- everyday pet obedience
- clicker training and homing signals
- road safety
- trick training
- handling and grooming
- basic first aid
- canine nutrition
- TTouch and conditioned relaxing
- fun agility and obstacle courses !
Buddy, demonstrating that even young pups can do cool things (look at that attention !)
A typical class (after a friendly competition)
There are many different ways to train (people and animals), but there are consequences for each. Most modern dog trainers are taught to realise the psychological effects of their training, and thankfully most are starting to use kinder techniques, a side effect of which builds up trust and a strong bond between owner and dog.
